Consultation has concluded

The Otter Street Park site is 0.07 hectares in size and was acquired by the Municipality as part of the area’s development process. The park site includes a set of stairs located across the street that lead to the water. In winter/spring of 2022, we sought input from nearby residents on the development of this park site.

This park is designated as a neighbourhood park. A neighbourhood park is a small, local park, generally under a hectare in size, that meets the recreation needs of the immediate neighbourhood. It is used by people within easy walking or cycling distance (300 to 500 metres).

Due to the small size of this park, a full playground or off-leash dog area is not being considered.

Otter Street Park - final concept

Thank you to everyone who provided input about the future of this small park space. Based on your initial input (survey #1) and your feedback on the first two concepts (survey #2), a final design concept has been chosen - Concept #1, Pollinator Garden.

After further discussion with neighbourhood residents, we shifted away from the final proposed "Garry Oak Meadow Garden" concept, and landed with the Pollinator Garden with a few small changes: no insect hotel, no split rail fence, and some changes to the plant materials and type/size of boulders. Construction will begin in fall 2022.

Design Concept

The Pollinator Garden concept attracts birds and beneficial insects throughout the growing season with a mix of indigenous and ornamental perennial flowers and grasses.

In addition to providing an island of valuable habitat, swaths of plants flowing over small mounds creates a rich palette of colours and textures in the park adding visual interest across the seasons in the Otter Street Neighbourhood.

As a perennial garden, the Pollinator Garden is a low maintenance intervention, requiring plants to be cut back once per year in February.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

Your input from earlier this year was used to develop two park concepts, "Pollinator Garden" and "Forest Edge". We want to know - what do you like about each concept? What do you not like?

This survey closes May 7, 2022.
