Consultation has concluded

Fairview Park is a .27 hectare (.66 acre) public space located at 6250 Fairview Way in North Cowichan’s South End. The playground is nearing the end of its life expectancy and needs to be replaced. The playground area is approximately 200m2.

We are looking to park users and neighbours to help inform what the new playground will look like and what equipment it should contain.

Note - the swings will remain, though they may be relocated.

What we heard

Earlier this year, we asked residents living close to the park for input on the new playground’s design, function, and what they envision for its replacement.

Through survey #1, we learned that 90% of respondents live within walking distance of the park, 48% of playground users are aged 0-5, 33% are aged 6-10, and 19% are aged 11-16. The playground features that respondents indicated were the most important were: a slide, a zipline*, and a climbing wall.

Your feedback was then used to develop four playground options. A second survey asked residents which playground design they liked best.

The most highly rated playground design, and the selected replacement is.... playground option #2! Construction on the new playground will begin in spring 2023.

*Please note: the addition of a zipline exceeded the playground replacement's budget of $45,000 in all submissions and is not included in the options.
